Ms. Deering
Ms. Deering has been teaching since 2000. She is the Language Arts teacher for Carnegie clan. She grew up in Hollis and is a proud Bonny Eagle graduate along with her coworker, Mr. Abbott.
Ms. Deering said she loves the staff, kids and general community of Bonny Eagle. I asked, ‘What do you love about Bonny Eagle?’ and she said, “It is wonderful to be a part of Carnegie Clan. I love my teammates and how well we work together. We each have different talents and experiences that we bring to our teaching and our students.”
Ms. Deering is not only a teacher, but a coach for the 8th grade girls field hockey. She played field hockey herself from 7th- 12th grade. I asked what her favorite part of coaching is and she said, “I love coaching field hockey. I’ve been lucky enough to coach Freshman field hockey, Junior Varsity and then 8th grade. I love seeing the players become better and better as the season goes on as well as
watching the team build friendships and camaraderie. It’s also great to be able to teach the game of field hockey to new players.”
Ms. Deering loves reading and writing, and she was a English major in college. The thing that frustrates her most in the classroom is when students say they ‘hate’ Language Arts.
Ms. Deering has a lot of favorites! For actors: Russell Crowe, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper. Authors: Elin Hilderbrand, Emily Giffin and Jodi Picoult. Her role models would be her sisters. Some authors she likes are Morgan Mattson, Sarah Dessen, and Carolyn Mackler.
But above all, Ms. Deering LOVES Tim McGraw. She said, “I started listening to him in 2003 and went to my first Tim concert in 2004. I put up some pictures in my classroom and then students started making me signs and posters! I love his voice and his songs.”
I asked her opinion on technology in the classroom, and she thinks that laptops are very helpful, but paper and a pencil are very important for learning language arts. Also reading actual books!
Something else Ms. Deering loves is traveling. “Traveling is a huge passion of mine and I like to travel as much as I can. I have been SO fortunate to travel many places in my life. Some recent travel: Orlando, Mexico City, Dominican Republic, Nashville, Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Key West. I love the tropics, and did lots of traveling in the summers with my family and have been very fortunate to see much of the United States. I have been to London twice as well.”
She loves Bonny Eagle and think it is a very nice place to learn and be a student.
