Why Teens are Depressed
There are many reasons for teens being depressed or sad. One of the main reasons is self doubt. Self doubt is not having much confidence in yourself or the things you are capable of. Self doubt can be caused by lack of friends, home life, and bad grades.
Some of the reasons that teenagers don't have many friends in middle school between the age of eleven and twelve is because most kids are still maturing so they might be different from others, which is the thing about our age. Some kids don't like different, they want you a certain way and they think of you in that certain manner because they may not like themselves.
Home life is another reason teens might be sad or depressed. Some examples include abuse (physical and/or emotional), parents arguing, or siblings or poverty.
Bad grades can be caused by self doubt, lack of friends, and home life. "Some children seem to soak up environmental factors at home. This in turn affects the relationship with the teacher. For other children, the conditions at home don't have much influence on their relationship with the teacher," according to www.sciencedaily.com.
Below are some quotes from my peers that are in seventh grade who are struggle with or might have struggled with depression themselves or who have friends and family who have.
{1} “Well sometimes I'm not happy because I can't see my dad that much anymore and my home life is not the best but.” ~DB
{2} “Well sometimes it gets very stressful and I get stressed out. And I need time to stop and understand and think.” ~TB
{3} “just odd flexes.”~CD
