Jazz Band!
Jazz band is a selected group of people from the grades six through eight that get more challenging music to play to make the sounds sound jazzy. In jazz band, you perform when other things go on. Like how the art festival goes on. So one gym is the art festival and the other one is jazz band playing. While the Naturalization Ceremony went on, the jazz band kids played the songs. Jazz band is where you could be more challenged then in regular band. You can have fun with the music and even sometimes you get to pick some music.
Even though jazz band could be hard, the teacher, Mrs. Raymond, could help you get the right note and even encourage you that you can do it. She has encouraged me because even when the right note doesn’t come out, she was proud of me that I even tried.
I interviewed Mrs. Raymond and she talked about some of her favorite instruments and what jazz band means to her. Her responses were this,
“My three favorite instruments are the baritone saxophone, clarinet, and the piano because they are easy to play and listening to the baritone saxophone go super low is funny. I started piano at nine years old, so I have been playing my instrument for twenty-two years now. On clarinet, my favorite song to play is ‘Spohr.’ On the piano, my favorite song is a Mozart piece that I can’t quite remember. I have been running jazz band for eight years now. I like doing jazz band because it’s a different kind of thing from regular band and it’s fun. Jazz band means a higher level group that gets to learn a different style of music, an american style of music to perpetuate the american style of music."
"My direct characterization is that I am 5’4, I have medium to short brown hair, brown eyes, and I always look like I’m upside down. My indirect characterization is that I like to work out, do triathlons and crossfit. I like playing my instruments and hanging out with my husband and cats (especially my cats).” She has an AMAZING personality.
The conclusion is that you should do jazz band for next year because Mrs. Raymond is one of the “favorited” teachers ever and she would be glad to have you as a student. Jazz band will always be a great group of people no matter who is in it. It is where you learn more jazzy, challenging music. I like it a lot and will definitely do it for as long as I can.
