Wildlife Encounters Assembly

Wildlife Encounters

On April 12th, the Friday before April break, Bonny Eagle Middle School had an assembly with Wildlife Encounters. I expected to see many types of animals and learn a lot about them. I was really hoping to see a snake and a spider. We did see a very large snake, and we got to feel it on our way out. It felt very fake and plastic-like, but it was very real.

Derek Small came to our school. Derek is the owner, director, and one of the talented educators. He showed us many animals, as expected. We saw a parrot named Noah, a small American Alligator (1-3’), a frog named Jelly Bean, an armadillo, a massive turtle, and a giant snake named Chester.

We learned facts about the animals, and the animal classification of each. Some were even classified as dinosaurs.

I really enjoyed the assembly. I did learn a lot and got to see some pretty cool animals. I had never seen an armadillo or a turtle that big! The whole presentation was 75 minutes and the seventh grade had 250+ students attend. Overall I enjoyed the assembly, it was pretty much just as I expected. I was glad I got to see animals I would probably never see just in the wild.

A big thanks for the middle school PTO! They paid for Mr. Small and the animals to come into our gym and give a presentation to each grade. Thank you, we all appreciate it!
