Mysteries of the Universe

It’s January, in the year of 2012. Christoph Weniger, a physicist at the University of Amsterdam is making a shocking discovery. It appeared to be, “A strange type of radiation around the center of the galaxy.”1 After taking a closer look, he soon realized it was dark matter particles colliding with each other! Could this collision be forming something greater?

A question you may be asking by now is: What is dark matter? Dark matter is an electrostatic mass, meaning it doesn’t give or reflect light. It also outweighs everything in our galaxy like gasses, stars, and even planets! According to Discover Magazine: The Possible Parallel Universe of Dark Matter, “...dark matter has little more than the glue that holds together the visible universe and all its rich diversity.”2 But how do we know dark matter is there if we can’t see it? After Christoph Weniger’s discovery many more examinations over dark matter were held. One day N.A.S.A. was scanning space for any gamma rays.3 Instead they found a energy 60 billion times stronger than any “normal light.” N.A.S.A. claimed that when any abnormal lights were found it would sound something like waves on a beach. This was nothing like that though. According to N.A.S.A. it made the “beep-beep-beep of a distress call.”4 Could this be another world trying to get in contact with us? While some sources claim dark matter doesn’t even exist, cosmologists continue to advance themselves in the mysteries of dark matter!
