Barclay at Ferry Beach!

On the days April 4th and April 5th, the whole of Barclay clan went to Ferry Beach for an overnight trip.

There were three buses with roughly twenty to twenty-five people on each. Forty-five minutes later, all buses arrived at the rainy scene. Despite the rain, it was a beautiful place. Everyone quickly gathered their stuff and ran to the dorms, darting between falling raindrops to put their stuff away.

Next the educators commenced a quick overview of the rules and then both girls and boys put their stuff away in their dorms. Between two and six kids were in each of the rooms, two bathrooms at the end of the hallway. They all went to lunch, had a bit of free time, and then started Lesson One with their assigned educators.

Once finished, the kids got more free time to relax and do what they liked. Play outside on the volleyball court, kick a soccer ball around in the sand, swing, or just sit on the porch in the rocking chairs. They were also allowed to go to the beach, if accompanied by an adult, or could hang in the dorms with their door propped open with a trashcan.

When freetime was over, it was finally time for dinner! The set-up kids, who were randomly chosen 8th graders that were supposed to help set the tables, ran in fifteen minutes before the others and did their job.

The other hungry children flooded into the dining hall to eat. Before each meal, they were taught some of the things that went into their meal. After eating, the waste left behind was measured and surprisingly, was only one point five pounds, which was a large improvement to the four pounds they’d gotten after lunch.

After dinner, they had roughly fifteen minutes to grab their stuff and head out the door for their nighttime lesson. They finished up their lesson, and headed to bed.

The next morning consisted of being able to go out and watch the sunrise for about an hour. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy to see a thing. After that they had breakfast, another lesson, a break, and finally, lunch. Once lunch was finished they were allowed to mess around on the porch and playground until the buses pulled up and it was time to leave.

Everyone piled their stuff on the bus, and left for school once more even though they didn’t want to. It was fair to say it was a very successful trip.

Here are some pictures taken by a student that went on the trip.
