BEyond Basketball Game!
The BEyond team is going to be defending their championship title on January 26th at 3:00 in the Murchie Gym, against a handpicked team consisting of players from our Boys and Girls 8th grade teams. We are asking that you take some time to talk about this game and encourage everybody available to come and be fans in the stands and cheer on our team. Possibly make posters to show support.
For those new staff and students or anyone unsure of what this is, our BEyond team consists of special olympics athletes from Laura Rosier and Sam Goodchild's programs. We have an amazing coach who has been working with these students to help them develop the basic skills in basketball. This is a fun game for these athletes to show off what they have learned and to hopefully gain support from their peers in the school. Some of the athletes who have participated in these practices and games have gone on to be on our HS Unified Basketball team, which is recognized as a varsity sport. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
We are also asking for some amazing staff members who would be willing to stay after school and help supervise the students in the gym from 2:15 - 4:00. If you are willing to stay and help assist with this, please just let me know and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Fans in the Stands is a program designed to promote unity and encourage students, friends, and families to get groups together to make posters, banners or organize pep rally’s for Special Olympics athletes in their schools and communities.
Be a Fan and Volunteer to Cheer!
Not every athlete has friends or a family cheering them on during competitions, so imagine the feeling they get when there is suddenly a crowd of supporters behind them. By simply making signs, bringing noisemakers, clapping, whistling, and making up chants, athletes will have the feeling of home-field advantage.
Below in the link to have kids sign up so we have a rough number on how many will be staying. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email! :-)
Edit: This article was edited to show members of both boys and girls teams will be participating.
