Winter Cheering

It’s that time of year again for Winter cheering to start! Tryouts for the team were on November 14, 15, and 17. The season is from December to February 4th. Mrs. Notz is the coach and the judges were Mrs. Chiasson and Ms. Rosier. They did a great job and all the girls did a great job trying out!

For the first two days the girls worked on jumps, cheers, dances, and forward rolls. 7th grader Kelsey Daniels said that the hardest part about trying out was learning the jumps. On the other hand 8th grader Jada Fisher said the hardest part was learning the dance.

During the first part of tryouts (on the last day) Mrs. Notz put the girls in groups of three. In the cafeteria when their names were called the girls would stand in front of the judges and Mrs. Notz. They would start by doing a cheer. Once every group had gone the girls waited in the Health room for their group to be called again. When their group was called the three girls would come back into the cafeteria. They would start off by standing on the mats in front of the judges’ tables. Then they would do two jumps. One with touching your toes in the air and the other jumping to the right in the air. After that they took a step off the mats and did two things. They ended with saying the cheer again then doing the eight count dance.

Before the girls tried out I got a chance to speak with the coach (Mrs. Notz). Mrs. Notz started coaching about 7 years ago. She also decided to coach because when she was in middle school and high school she was a cheerleader. When the girls tried out Mrs. Notz and the judges were looking for attitude, tumbling experience, dancing skills, and most importantly positive energy and enthusiasm. The girls are 7th and 8th graders. They will be cheering for Basketball.

Jada Fisher and Kelsey Daniels were two girls who tried out for Cheering. They both made the team! Jada is in 8th grade and has cheered before this. In her opinion she likes cheering and she thinks it is fun. Kelsey is in 7th grade and this is her first time cheering. Kelsey also tried out because in her opinion it seems fun and it is always good to try something new. After tryouts Jada wished she had done the jumps better and Kelsey wished the same. Even though both girls wished they could do the jumps again they both tried their hardest and made the team!

I would like to make a special thanks to Kelsey Daniels, Jada Fisher, Mrs. Notz, Ms. Rosier, and Mrs. Chiasson. Also thank you to all the girls who made the team!
