Girls on the Run
Are you a girl who has a lot of energy and likes to run? If so why don’t you join Girls on the Run? The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the coaches are Mrs. Duhamel, Ms. Winot, Ms. Dodge, and Mrs. Whitney. Ms. Winot is the head coach. If you are interested talk to one of the coaches. You also have to register and fill out an application. Registration opens before the season. The fall season has already started, but there is a Spring season. The Spring season starts the week of March 20th.
Molly Hamilton and Grace Dixon both participate in Girls on the Run. In Molly's opinion the best part about the club is to be able to run with other girls and to get the chance to learn new warm - ups. In the club 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls get to run on the track, do fun warm - ups, and talk to each other. The girls set lap goals before they run. Recently Grace and Molly’s lap goals have been ten laps around the track. As they ran, the girls were given pieces of paper. On the paper were questions. The girls had to think about them as they ran. When they came back to one of the coaches they had to answer the question. Then they were given a new piece of paper and off to run some more laps.
So far there are twelve girls in the club. One eighth grader, six sixth graders, and five seventh graders. The girls are Grace Dixon, Molly Hamilton, Alivia Roy, Paige Bellanceau, Madison Harvey, Kylie Gardner, Noelle Lewis, Kaitlyn Vafiadis, Autumn Frasier, Elora Larrivee, Annelyse Warner, and Madalyn Nicely. They love running and the club!
The girls are preparing for a 5K that takes place on November 13th, 2016 at Pinehill farms. Before they run the full 5K the girls will practice by doing a “mock 5K”. The mock 5K is where they will run the Scot trot loop. Make sure you come to cheer on the girls!!!
Ms. Winot decided to start Girls on the Run. Mrs. Duhamel decided to do it to because she wanted to motivate girls and to challenge them to try something new that is different. She also wants them to build self confidence. It seemed that what she wanted happened, because Molly and Grace love the club and Grace said that she is challenging herself to try new things (as in the club).
