Awesome Assemblies

Awesome Assemblies

Last Friday at Bonny Eagle Middle School an assembly was held from 12:15 to 1:45. All students from grades 6 to 8 were there during the PBIS assembly. Most of the students enjoyed it, because the administration worked hard to make it enjoyable.

Some activities that made the assembly enjoyable were musical chairs, the beanbag toss, and the Scot Slip revelation. The one activity that the students seemed to enjoy the most was musical chairs.

Each grade went, and every time the students would be on the edge of their seats, hoping that their name would be the next one called.

When it came down to the last two, everyone would fall semi-silent; watching, waiting for the music to stop. Then, when the music stopped, the students would burst into cheers as the peer they had been cheering for won.

The students also seemed to enjoy the beanbag toss. Engaging the students in the activity keeps them eager and alert. It’s definitely better than them just sitting there!

The beanbag toss was fun for the audience and participants both.

The teachers will have to include this during the next assembly for sure!

There were three reasons that seemed to be the goal of the assembly. First off, it seems that they hold the assemblies to help promote a healthy and positive school atmosphere. Secondly, it seems they hold the assemblies to also reward good student behavior, with the drawing of the Scot Slips. Last but not least, it’s pretty much an excuse to have a couple hours off to enjoy ourselves and relax. School doesn’t always have to be about work!

One thing a lot of students and teachers I’ve interviewed hope to have during the next assembly is definitely musical chairs, and the musical performances. Everyone loves to hear the school band play!

Here are what some of them said:

Mrs. Anderson- “My favorite part of the assembly was the school song.”

Mr.DeMaris- “I liked the corn hole tournament, and my favorite activity is always musical chairs. I enjoy the musical performances, too.”

Grace D.- “I’d have to say musical chairs.”

Morgan S.- “Musical Chairs.”

Taylor C.- “When they played the song ‘Let It Go’ during musical chairs.”

One thing that I always love at the assemblies is the performance of the school band, Necessary Roughness. The music is a great finish to the assembly, along with the school anthem. I’d say that the school assembly was a success, and I can’t wait for the next one!
