Welcome to BEMS!

Welcome to 6th Grade. You fit right in!

Hello 6th graders and welcome to Bonny Eagle Middle School. We are very happy to have you join the school! Although school can be fun there are some hard parts. Are you stressing over trying to memorize your locker combination? Trying to keep your binder organized? Getting caught up on work? Well stop worrying because I have some helpful tips and ideas to keep you loving 6th grade!

When I was in 6th grade I remember I had trouble with my locker. It was new to me and I didn’t get it at all. So don’t worry. I had a lot of trouble with remembering my combination. Even in 7th grade I can barely remember it. Some tips that helped me are putting your combination on the outside “pocket” of your folder. This way every time you look at your binder you will see it. Another tip is to write it on bookmarks, your schedule, or even on sticky notes. If you write it on sticky notes I suggest putting them… on your nightstand, in your folder, in your books (you can use it as a bookmark), and on your laptop (stick it near the keyboard). I hope that helps you. If it doesn’t help, remember the teachers are always there to help!

Another thing is binders. Last year I didn't clean my binder out. BIG mistake!! I had some papers that were missing and one of the pockets in my binder was filled with so many papers it was starting to tear. Some good things to do are every month take your binder or binders home. Take all your papers out and sort through them. Make three piles. The piles will be trash, keep, and school. All the papers you put in the trash pile goes into the trash (remember recycling is good too)! All of the papers that are in the keep pile you can keep them in your house. Lastly all the papers in the school pile return to your school binder. If you are not sure if you need to keep a paper or throw it away… ASK YOUR TEACHER. They will definitely know what to do! One more idea for organizing your binder is using tabs. They will help you to put papers in the right section. This way they won't be all over the place. If you are a crafty person or if you don’t want to buy tabs you can make them. All you need to do is cut off a cereal box cover and use it as a tab. If you don't like that idea you can also take a piece of paper and put a piece of tape on it. Then to the other side of the page take another piece of tape and attach it to the paper and the other piece of tape. When done you can write the subject on it in sharpie. Below are some pictures of me doing it if you are confused.

One more tip I have for you is for getting caught up on work. If you are allowed to stay after school a good thing for you to do is Learning Lab. You can get caught up on work and there are teachers there to help you. If you can’t do that then I would take your work home and do it at your house. If after school you have activities like dance or a sport you can always do some of the work on the way there or on the way back.

I hope all of those ideas and tips help you. If you are still stuck on something like getting to class on time or needing tips to focus feel free to email me at paigecutler@bonnyeagle.org. I look forward to hearing if the tips worked or if you need more ideas!
